Lesson 5 of 7
Your timeline, grade by grade
9th & 10th grade
- ●Get your counselor to confirm your classes are on the NCAA-approved core list.
- ●Treat every grade like it counts — because for eligibility, it does.
- ●Build the habit now: good grades when nobody’s watching.
11th grade (the big one)
- ●Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (start of junior year).
- ●Hit the 10/7 checkpoint — 10 core courses done, 7 in English/Math/Science.
- ●Take the SAT/ACT if your target schools want it for admission or money.
12th grade
- ●Finish your remaining core courses with your GPA protected.
- ●Have your final transcript sent to the Eligibility Center.
- ●Request your amateurism certification before you enroll.
The bottom line
This is a four-year project, not a senior-year scramble. The kids who start in 9th grade never have a crisis in 12th.
