The JUCO road (Coach Fite’s actual path)
Junior college is the most misunderstood path in football. People treat it like a failure. It’s not — it’s a second engine. You play right away, you fix your grades, and you get two seasons to put film up against real competition and earn a four-year offer.
Recent rulings have made JUCO time count more kindly against your eligibility clock, and four-year programs actively recruit proven JUCO players — sometimes over unproven high schoolers. A JUCO season can make you MORE recruitable, not less.
Coach Fite
Navarro College. That’s where my “failure” took me. I grew up there, got my work right, and kept playing — and it led to Texas A&I, then the pros and a Grey Cup ring. If a four-year school isn’t there out of high school, JUCO isn’t the end of the dream. For me it was the start of the real one.
The bottom line
JUCO is a proven path to D1 and even the NFL. If the grades or offers aren’t there yet, it’s a launch pad — not a label.
